Monumental India Leopard, Tiger & Birding Tour

On this tour we will visit some of the best birding sites in Northern India. Not only will we see around 350 species of birds, we will also have the chance to see some wonderful mammals such as Tiger and Leopard. We will visit some world-famous sites such as Ranthambore and perhaps the best birding area in India, Keoladeo National Park.

This tour will also allow you to explore some amazing forts and cities, all accompanied by local guides who know the history of every site we visit. We are offering it as a 16 day adventure as well as an extension which will take us up into Corbett National Park and the Nainital region with the chance of seeing species not found further south. Corbett National Park gives us an extra chance at seeing Tigers in the wild. This extension will take us up into the Himalayan foothills for some brilliant birding and spectacular views

Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Delhi, you will be transferred to your hotel (Atrio or a similar accommodation). This first day is designed for you to relax and settle in after your journey, allowing you to rest and prepare for the exciting adventure that lies ahead.

 

Your day will be spent exploring the bird-rich Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, located on the outskirts of Delhi. You will have a full day to immerse yourself in birdwatching, spotting a variety of species that frequent this sanctuary. For those interested, there is also an optional city tour of Delhi available, giving you the opportunity to explore some of the capital’s iconic landmarks.

 

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Udaipur, departing at 07:45 hrs and arriving at 09:10 hrs. From Udaipur, you’ll take a scenic drive to Bera, where you will begin your wildlife adventure with an afternoon Leopard Safari. You’ll spend the night in a camp, fully immersed in the natural beauty of the area.

 

The day begins with a morning Leopard Safari, providing another chance to spot the elusive big cats. Following breakfast, you will head to Dem for some birdwatching. The afternoon will offer a final opportunity for a Leopard Safari, as you continue to explore the wilderness of Bera.

 

Your final morning in Bera will include another Leopard Safari, after which you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast before driving to Jodhpur. Upon arrival in the Blue City, you’ll check into your hotel (Marugarh or similar) and visit the imposing Mehrangarh Fort in the afternoon, where you’ll have the chance to delve into Rajasthan’s rich history.

 

An early morning departure will take you to the railway station, where you’ll board a train bound for Jaipur at 05:55 hrs. Upon your arrival in Jaipur at 10:50 hrs, you’ll be transferred to your hotel (Park Regis or similar). The afternoon will be spent on a city tour, exploring Jaipur’s architectural wonders and vibrant markets.

 

The morning begins with a birding excursion at the Nahargarh Biological Park, a biodiversity hotspot located on the outskirts of Jaipur. After lunch, the afternoon will be dedicated to more birdwatching and game viewing around Jaipur, providing a glimpse of the local wildlife in this semi-arid region.

 

After breakfast, you will depart for Ranthambore National Park, one of India’s most renowned wildlife sanctuaries. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation (Ranthambore Kothi or similar), where you can rest and prepare for the upcoming game drives.

 

Your day will be dedicated to game viewing, with both morning and afternoon safaris planned within Ranthambore National Park. The primary focus will be on spotting the majestic Bengal Tiger, along with other wildlife species that inhabit the park.

 

After another morning game drive in Ranthambore, you will visit Soorwal Lake in the afternoon, a haven for birdwatchers. The lake attracts a variety of bird species, offering a peaceful yet exciting birding experience amidst the stunning landscapes of Rajasthan.

 

Following one final morning game drive, you will set off for Bharatpur. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your hotel (The Bagh or similar), preparing for two full days of exploring the world-famous Keoladeo National Park.

 

These two days are dedicated to birdwatching at Keoladeo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of India’s top birding destinations. With its wetlands and woodlands, the park is home to a diverse array of resident and migratory birds, offering an unparalleled birding experience.

 

After breakfast, you will drive to Agra, with a stop en route at Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital. Upon arrival in Agra, you’ll visit the iconic Taj Mahal, one of the most famous landmarks in the world. After exploring Agra, you will continue your journey to Chambal, where you’ll engage in some evening birding around the Chambal Lodge.

 

The morning begins with a boat ride on the Chambal River, offering a unique opportunity to observe wildlife, including Gharials, crocodiles, and a variety of birds. After lunch, you’ll drive back to Delhi and check into your hotel for the night.

On your final day, you’ll either catch your flight home or continue the adventure with the optional extension to Corbett and Nainital for more birding and wildlife experiences.

Extension to Corbett & Nainital

After an early breakfast, you will depart from Delhi and begin your drive to Nainital, a charming hill station nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. The journey itself offers great opportunities for birding along the way, with a chance to spot a variety of Himalayan species. Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel and prepare for the exciting days of birding ahead.

Today will be fully dedicated to exploring the Pangot area, a birding paradise known for its abundance of Himalayan birds. You will spend the day traversing the lush forests and scenic trails, looking out for species such as the Cheer Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, and a variety of finches, flycatchers, and woodpeckers.

On this day, you will visit the Sattal area, another excellent birding destination located near Nainital. The dense forests and serene lakes provide a perfect habitat for a diverse range of bird species. As you explore the area, you’ll be on the lookout for birds such as the Rufous-chinned Laughingthrush, Red-billed Leiothrix, and Slaty-headed Parakeet, among others.

After breakfast, you will begin your drive to Corbett National Park, stopping for birdwatching along the way. Upon arrival in Dhikuli, located just outside Corbett, you will check into your hotel. The remainder of the day will be spent birding in the surrounding areas, which are home to species not found in the lower regions of India.

Today will be dedicated to birdwatching in the areas surrounding Corbett National Park. The forests and riverbanks offer a rich habitat for a variety of species, including raptors, waterfowl, and forest birds. You’ll have the chance to spot birds such as the Great Hornbill, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, and the Collared Falconet, while also keeping an eye out for the park’s resident mammals.

 

After an early breakfast, you will drive to the Dhikala zone inside Corbett National Park, one of the most renowned areas for both birding and wildlife viewing. Upon arrival, you will check into the Forest Lodge, which offers basic but comfortable accommodation in the heart of the wilderness. The day will be spent birding and looking out for wildlife, including the possibility of spotting Tigers, Elephants, and Leopards.

Your morning will be spent birdwatching in the Dhikala area, where the diverse habitats attract a wide variety of species. After lunch, you will drive back to Dhikuli and check into your hotel for the night. The evening is at leisure, offering time to relax or reflect on the incredible wildlife and birding experiences of the past days.

After breakfast, you will begin your drive back to Delhi. The journey takes you through scenic landscapes, offering one last opportunity for birding along the way. Upon arrival in Delhi, you will check into your hotel for your final night in India.

 

On your final day, you will transfer to the airport for your flight home, bringing your unforgettable birding and wildlife adventure to a close. With memories of rare bird sightings, majestic mammals, and breathtaking landscapes, you’ll leave India with a deep connection to its diverse natural heritage.
